Jai Santoshi Maa is a 1975 Indian Hindi-language (Telugu dubbed) devotional film directed by Vijay Sharma and written R. Priyadarshi. Santoshi Ma (also called Santoshi Mata) is the goddess of satisfaction. Usha Mangeshkar, sang the devotional songs for the film along with Mahendra Kapoor and the famous poet Kavi Pradeep, who wrote the song lyrics.

The film opens in the Devaloka, where we witness the birth of Goddess Santoshi Mata as the daughter of Ganesha, the elephant headed god of good beginnings, his two wives Riddhi and Siddhi (prosperity and spiritual power), and as the sister of Kshema and Labha (prosperity and profit). Although, Ganesha has another wife Buddhi (wisdom), she is not portrayed in the film.

All hardships and tears come to test our patience and endurance. They may be the sins of previous/ current births, the time has come for them to be expunged. That's why we should be happy.

కష్టాలు కన్నీళ్ళు అన్ని, మన సహనం ఓర్పును పరీక్షించడానికే వస్తాయి. అవి పూర్వ/ నేటి జన్మ పాపాలు కావచ్చు, అవి తీరిపోయే సమయం వచ్చింది. అందుకే ఆనందముగా ఉండాలి.

We can pray to Mom to give us physical strength and mental/ soul strength (Atma balam) to endure hardships. Note that, we have changed the words of the song like that.

కష్టాలు భరించి ఓర్చుకునే శారీరక శక్తి, మానసిక ఆత్మబలం ఇవ్వమని, అమ్మ ను ప్రార్ధన చెయ్యవచ్చు. మనము పాట మాటల ను, అలా మార్చాము, గమనించండి.

Mom, I will do the vow/ Vrata, help me - do not say that. It is wrong, comes under bribery and has no useful result.

అమ్మా వ్రతము చేస్తాను, సహాయం చెయ్యమ్మా అనకూడదు. అది తప్పు, లంచం కిందకు వస్తుంది, ఉపయోగపడే ఫలితము ఉండదు.

సాధన భక్తి గా చేస్తున్నా, అది కొనసాగించడానికి, శక్తిని ఇవ్వమ్మా అని అనవచ్చును, ఈ కోరిక లో తప్పులేదు.

Vrata means, not only we just performed some puja, distributed Prasadam/ money/ goods, we ate Prasadam.

వ్రతము అంటే, ఏదో పూజ చేసాము, ప్రసాదం/ ధనం/ వస్తువులు పంచాము, ప్రసాదం మేము తిన్నాము మాత్రమే కాదు.

Are we doing the Guna of Mom, for the welfare of the world? In the moral stories told in the Vratam, there is a moral that one should not indulge in lust anger mada moha lobha matsarya (i.e. leave the slavery of Arishadvarg Ashtavyasan). They are meant to be followed in eternal life. The same practice/ sadhana.
